| Today was pretty hard on all of us, including Little Al this time! We started out not being able to eat anything after 5am. That does not go over well with the little guy who HAS to eat every three hours on the dot! So, he started out fussy from the get-go! Anyway, we got to the hospital at 9:30am, and went to Pediatric Cardiology where Alan was to get his heart cath procedure done. We met with the Dr. who was going to do it and he explained exactly what was going to be done. Basically, they did very similar to an angiogram. They went through his groin, and took pictures of his heart so that Dr. Bove could look at them in preparation for the surgery. Everything went very well, and no surprises were found, much to mom and dad's relief! They did, however, have to give him two shots of anesthesia to keep him out. He's so stubborn, that he wouldn't stay asleep. After that, though, he slept pretty much all afternoon. After the cath, they admitted him to the hospital for observation and we weren't sure if we were going to be staying overnight or not. But the head cardiac nurse, Alicia told us that his surgery won't be until second tomorrow, so we could go back to the hotel if we felt comfortable. He has a bed at the hospital, though, so we could have stayed. We of course decided to come back as he is doing very well, and we are comforted by the fact that we can easily take him right back to the hospital. Nana, Papa, Grammy Jo, Grandpa Ed, Big Al, and Aunt Marcia all got into town about the same time tonight, and it happened to be when we got back. So, we all met up and attempted to act normal and go out to eat. Nana, mommy, and Little Al left a little early, though, because it was a lot of stimulation for him and he was quite confused. I think it was very confusing for him not being at home and all of a sudden having his whole family around. He finally smiled at Nana as he was being put to bed. Before that, his attention was on making sure Daddy was in his line of sight ALL the time. Even at the hospital, Daddy had to be right there, and he would be calm. Even mommy was glad for that because she isn't exactly holding it together too well sometimes. So, we are to be at the hospital at 10:30 in the morning and hopefully he will be going to surgery at 11:30. It just all depends on when the first surgery of the day gets done, and of course we want Dr. Bove to be ready!! Mommy and Daddy will get to take him to the surgery floor which is also a relief because I (mommy) was thinking we'd just have to go to the hospital and hand him off first thing. But, we will be able to spend an hour giving him his pep talk, and then go with him down to the surgery floor where the anesthesiologists will take him into surgery. It is expected to last 4-6 hours, maybe more. So, hopefully he will be in the hands of Nurse Kris by late afternoon/early evening. By this time tomorrow night we will be through the worst!!! To everyone in Nana and Aunt Sasha's breakfast club, thank you for the messages! We really appreciate them! Thank you Uncle Dave for calling us. You always seem to call at just the right time, and we love and miss you! Of course, we miss everyone, and Little Al is ready to come home! Will update as we can through this website during surgery... Much love, Mommy, Daddy, and Little Al Click here for a few pics of today |
