Today we left Rossport and headed toward Thunder Bay and then back to the U.S. and ended up at
Grand Portage, MN for the night.
Along the way we stopped to look at huge canyon in the morning and then stopped at Fort William
in the afternoon. Fort William was a non-military fort built by the North West Company during the
height of the fur trading business. Fort William was the largest fur trading post ever built! When
you get to the fort, they advise you to remember that you are stepping back to 1812, and that is just
how all the employees behave, if you ask them a question about something that would have
occurred after 1812 they tell you they know nothing about it. It was very interesting, we learned a
lot about how life would have been for employees of the Company and for the voyageurs who
hauled all of the furs from the outposts to Fort William. Life was very harsh for them in 1812!
